Once again, my goal was to push through the entire workout without stopping.
And once again, Ski Abs and In-and-Out Abs punched my mustache off. I cannot get through those damn things without taking a fricking break. My shoulders just kill me. (My abs are not the problem, they should call these Ski Shoulders and In-and-Out Shoulders) Staying in plank position that long, after doing the Level 1 drills (I think there are 6 sets of 4 pushups, so 24 pushups, followed by 8 floor sprints times 6) is just to much. Even Shaun T says “This is where I run out of gas and need a break”. If the instructor needs a flipping break, then what about us 43 year old guys with bad knees?
I have no idea what the MAX Plyo Cardio Circuit has in store, but it better not be Ski-Abs and In-and-Out abs IMMEDIATELY following Level 1 drills. Tomorrow is rest day followed by recovery week. Yesssss

Well yesterday the wife and kids joined me for a bout of Plyo Cardio Circuit. I felt all Tony Hortonish and shit with comments like “you want perfection, look at this” and “I gotta check on the kids” rolling off my tongue every few minutes. Even with the family there to witness it first hand, Plyo Cardio Circuit boot stomped my face off again. I always have to take breaks during the frickin Ski Abs. Those things suck ass.
Now the family has been doing P90X for the past few months, but basically half-assing it. You know, one week on, next week skip a few days, next week on, next week skip all the days, etc.. etc… They see that I am finished with my workouts in less than an hour and get all pissed off. So they wanted to try one first hand and see what it is all about.
Needless to say, Shaun T chewed them up and spit them out like like a Pakistani would do to a pork chop. I have to give them credit though, they stuck through it til the end, although my guess is that if I was not there, they would have shut the DVD off after the first session of the workout and said to hell with it.
Today is Cardio Recovery, I am so looking forward to the severe burning sensation in the thighs. I will be very surprised if I get any company downstairs with me wanting to do the workout. Actually, this would be a good one for them to do, except for the pain in the thighs, this is a pretty easy workout.

Now that I am back into the Insanity for a few days, I am starting to get the cardio back. I was able to crank out the Plyo Cardio Circuit while attempting to match Shaun T’s intensity level all the way through. I finally had to give in during the 2nd round of Ski Abs for an extra 10 second break. And again during the 3rd round of Ski Abs for a 10 second break.
I am not sure that I will ever get to the point where I can blast all the way through this workout without taking a couple of extra breaks. I KNOW they say go at your own pace, and take breaks when needed. But somehow that always feels like cheating. I take the DVD’s as a challenge to match their pace (eventually, not the first time you try them) and that was the 5th time that I had done PCC, so I figure I should be getting to the point where I can match them.
Anyways, it is so nice to be able to do the workouts without having sore and swollen knee joints. That week of vacation was the best thing for my legs. Tomorrow is a rest day, looking forward to getting out and getting some yard work done.

Ok, I just got back from a week of skiiing in beautiful Colorado and it is time to get back into the Insanity groove. When I left I had just completed Day 19, but I did not take my workouts with me. (I would never have been able to complete even half of one after spending the day on the slopes, and with the thin air, the thighs just take a beating) Now that I am back home and back to flipping work, it is time to finish off the Insanity workouts.
I have decided to back up to the day following the final fit test to start over (that would be Day 16). So it was Plyometric Cardio Circuit that I had to jump back into. Well, once I got going everything felt fine, but once again, I needed to start taking breaks once I got to the second round of Ski Abs. I end up taking 10 second breaks during Ski and In and Out abs during the 2nd and 3rd rounds.
I also stepped back on the scale after eating and drinking anything that came my way for the past 9 days. I was expecting to have ballooned up 4 or 5 pounds. So I fired up the Wii Fit (this is where I track my weight and BMI) and much to my surprise…. I lost 1.3 lbs? I can not believe it…. 166.7lbs
I am going back on a low-carb diet through the end of April. (originally I figured I would need to lose the extra flab I picked up while on vacation, but I guess not) I want to get down to about 160lbs and 10% body fat. I am actually going to STICK to the plan of 50% protein, 30% Carbs and 20% fats.
Day 1 of the diet: 56%Protein, 27% carbs and 17% fats. (I did it, I knew that I could, so I am off to a good start) Good thing April only has 30 days, cause I am gonna be tired of chicken by the end of the month. The next fit test is not until April 26th and by then, I had better be able to keep up with that little hottie Tania.

The swelling has gone down some in the old timers knee so I went downstairs and fired up the Plyometric Cardio Circuit DVD that is Day 16. Now each of the last 3 times I have done this damn workout, I have made it to the 2nd round of Ski Abs in the 2nd half of the workout before needing extra breaks. So my goal was to get past that. I think I have a mental block going on, cause once again, 2nd round of Ski Abs, my legs refused to move to either the left or right side and my arms gave out and I planted my face into the sweat soaked carpet. Son of a Bitch… a 15 second rest and I finish it out. 3rd round Ski Abs, once again, a face plant. 15 second extra rest and I am good through the finish of the DVD. Day 20 is the next chance at this DVD and I WILL make it past that point without stopping… I swear.
For anyone else out there who is doing this Insane workout with Shaun T, have you noticed the chick in the far back on the right hand side of the gym during the Plyo Cardio Circuit workout? I have seen white people, and I have seen powder white people, but DAMN that chick is nearly translucent!! The crazy thing is she is wearing a black workout top and shorts so she looks even whiter. I notice that she works out in a shaded area of the floor as well. Must be part Vampire or some shit like that, cause there is no way the sun has ever touched that skin. I guarantee there are NO tan lines to be found anywhere on that body.
One other thing about this DVD, what is it with the skinny little crack ho looking woman in the front? They constantly show her (almost as much as that little cupcake Tania) but damn that woman is not camera worthy. Shaun T even screams at her a couple of times to get her shit together and she is like ” I want to leave” and he just ignores the bitch. Shaun is like “keep workin your scraggly ass” but then he finally tells her to quit. At which point she slides out the back of the gym to purchase a small rock from the local high school pusher.
Now that I am getting better at these workouts, I have a little more time to check out the people in the background. Up to this point I simply stared at the bar at the bottom of the screen and prayed for a gray section to show up. The schedule calls for Pure Cardio plus Cardio Abs for tomorrow. Shit…

I kept telling myself that the third time would be the charm in getting through the Plyometric Cardio Circuit DVD. I need to learn to stop talking to myself, cause once again, I did not make it through without taking some extra breaks. I am now able to get through the Warm-Up and Stretches matching the same pace as Shaun and the others. I can get through the first half of the workout matching them as well. It is the first round of the second half of the workout where I run out of steam. This time it was the first set of Ski-Abs that I had to take a 20 second break on. I then need a break during the In-Out Abs section as well. Once I get the regular break, then I am able to power through the Basketball Jumps and Level 1 Drills, but once I get about half way through the Ski-Abs, I need another break. Same thing for the third round, I need a small break during the In-Out abs, but then can finish up the final 4 “Extras” without a problem.
Has anyone else noticed that at the end of this DVD after the stretch is completed, that everyone including Shaun T appear to be fresh as a daisy? Their skin is not even sweaty. I think they must have shot the conclusion of the DVD prior to the start. Cause I am still drippin sweat for a few minutes after the cool down is completed. Either that or an industrial strength fan is blowing on them during the cool down. (not that you would see Shaun’s hair blowing in the wind)
March 15, 2010
This was the second time through the Plyo Cardio Circuit DVD and it did get slightly easier the second time. Mainly because I knew enough to really start out slow on the first rounds of the warm up as well as the actual work out. It did not matter, by the end I was still drenched in sweat and having to take some extra breaks. With p90X, you could actually hear Tony and crew during the workout, but with Insanity, all I can hear is me huffing and puffing and my heart pounding in my ears.
For all I know Shaun T could be just as douchey as Tony Horton (I doubt that is possible) cause all I know is that I am like one of Pavlov’s dogs, staring that the bottom of the screen waiting for the gray “break” section to show up. Tomorrow is the rest day, and my knees could really use the break. Also, my feet were bugging me so I did the Plyo Circuit in bare feet. Actually kind of preferred it to my cross trainers.
