Day 58 – Back and Biceps???

January 27, 2010

Back and Biceps… What the??? Oh yeah, I accidentally did the wrong work out a couple weeks ago and now I need to make up for the Back and Biceps that I missed.   Good thing I was the Designated Driver last night, otherwise I never would have remembered that.  I felt fine after waking up, so I headed right down to the fitness center for a round of Back and Biceps with the peeps.

This workout is pretty uneventful, increase some weights and added more to the strip set.   Last full day in Vegas so I really am just looking foward to getting out and hitting the tables.   Once I get cleaned up and head down to breakfast, …. OK, maybe more like late Brunch, it is off to the tables.   I start the day with a nice quick win at the Craps tables before getting pulled away to take care of some loose ends on our last day here.

The last day always seems to zoom by and this one is no different.  The next thing you know it is 3:00am and you are thinking…. I have a 9:00am flight, should I go to bed or just pull an all nighter?   Usually this is a simple answer, pull the all nighter and sleep on the plane. But this trip my luck has turned sour the last half of the last day and I am shredding through my previous days winnings at an alarming rate.   What was looking like a nice winning trip is starting to look like a breakeven proposition.   I decide not to tap into any of my own money and just head to bed.  The wife has been winning today so let her make some money.

Another Vegas trip is coming to a close….

Day 57 – Viva Las Plyo

January 27, 2010

Oh man, plyo with a hangover sucks hairy monkey nuts.   I knew getting up early the day before was gonna cost me, and it did.  I managed to hang out til 4:30am or so but finally had to call it quits.   Not sure how many beers and cocktails I had, but my body said too many.   After I got up that morning (it was still before 11am so technically you could call it morning) it was time for Plyo.

Let me tell ya, Plyo normally makes me sweat, but just not 30 seconds into it.  Apparently Bud Select and Vodka tonics will make your sweat glands more active, as I was sweating buckets just minutes into the workout.   I huffed and puffed my way through the entire thing.  It seemed to cure my hangover, as once I was finished my head no longer hurt.  I must have sweated out a gallon of pure grain alcohol, kind of like a human distillation machine.   My legs were killing me cause we walked all day the previous day, and I stood around a craps table most of the night.   Add a little Plyo on top of that and BLAM,  your legs feel like shit.

Another normal day in Vegas, check out some casinos during the day.  (Love the Red Rock and M places) Then head down to the seedier downtown area for the real action at night.   I just love downtown.  Reminds me more of the old Las Vegas where the tables are crowded, the smoke is thick, and the place is so fucking noisy you can’t hear yourself think.  The NFL playoffs were on and we watched parts of the early game while at the nicer casinos in their clean and sterile Sports Books.  Nothing against them, there are people there cheering and stuff, but its not like the downtown area.   We went down there for the second game and everywhere in the casinos, the people were screaming for the games as they played various games.  The bars were packed and people were hooting and hollering having a good time.

Another great thing about downtown… you can walk from joint to joint if you don’t like the action at one place.  Also, they have places that offer 20x odds on craps and there are more tables open with lower stakes. (brings out the trailer trash)  Eventually we make our way back to the Golden Gate, ahh yes.  Multiple scantily clad girls dancing to ultra loud music right in the middle of the casino pit.  The way all of Vegas should be.  Once they are done dancing, they take a turn dealing blackjack.  Love it.  Real working class women.

Eventually everyone meets back up at the Main Street Station and stumbles into the brew pub there. (I was stuck as des. driver that night)  A few are having a hard time walking straight and speaking coherently.   Nothing like pub food at 1:30am, yum.   Then it is back out into the streets for more gambling and dancing girls.  A couple hours later we meet back up at the Main Street.   Into the car and back to home base  (in this case The Orleans)   A few more hours at the tables there and time to call it a night.  Is that the sun coming up over there? I ask as I pull the drapes closed to get some sleep.   Just another day on Vegas time.

Day 56 – Chest and Back Vegas Style

January 27, 2010

Well I woke up nice and early (7:00am Vegas Time, not bad seeing that I got to bed around 3:30am)  of course it was early in Vegas, but back home it was 10:00am already.   I got into my shorts and t-shirt and headed down to the fitness center.  Needless to say, not many people come to Vegas to get in shape, and the place was pretty empty.  Maybe 6 or 7 people total.

I had converted my P90X disks into iPod playable movies and so I simply strapped on the Nano and pressed play.  I am sure I looked like a complete idiot doing my Tony warm up and stretches in the tiny section of the room that had an open floor.  Everyone else simply came in the door and started with the weights or treadmills right away, no warm up.   But I continued on like  the good P90X soldier that I am.   Then it was on to push ups, again I was the only person doing any of those, then pull-ups, again the only person using that stuff.

I do not have a pull-up bar at home and use the bands (3 actually) and I have to say that the actual pull-ups are much harder, but I think you really suffer with the form.   I did 12 on the first set.  I had not tried any since the fit test and I think I managed 5 then.   So that was a big improvement.    They did not have a regular straight chin-up bar at this place, but some stand with a bunch of funky hand positions that sucked.  I think I could do more with just a standard old bar.

Anyways, I plowed through the entire workout and then on to the ab-ripper.  The one thing I noticed was that plenty of people had already come to workout and left while I was still sweating away in my little corner of the gym.   I think this workout may take an hour and 15 minutes total.  It amazed me how many people came down and did stuff for maybe 25 minutes and called it done.   (of course they had no warm up or cool down, and hardly anyone got down on the floor for ab work)  I think the structure of following the DVD’s makes these workouts a ton more effective, as most people just seemed to go through the motions and not really try to push themselves at all.

Once the workout was done, I headed back to the room, showered and went to breakfast.  After that I headed to the tables for an hour or so before everyone else was finally ready for the day.  Getting up early to get the workout in felt great, but I had this feeling it was gonna cost me dearly that night at 3:00am when everyone else is going strong.

The weather in Vegas was sunny and mid-fifties, so to us it was like spring.  Spent some time walking around outside in the afternoon and had a nice dinner that evening.  Went to a show and then…. off to the tables.   (We generally don’t even start gambleing until a little before midnight)     Had another OK night, made some money, but just could not get on that hot streak needed to really make some serious money.   I could not complain though, as I was up again for the day.

Day 55 – Rest and Travel

January 27, 2010

Today was a rest day and I was also traveling out to Las Vegas.   Our flight left at 5:00pm and we arrived in Vegas at 7:00pm Vegas time.    Once we got checked into the hotel and got the bags up into the room it was 9:00pm Vegas time.  It’s a Friday night, so basically the place is just starting to warm up…. Down to the casino we go.   I don’t like to gamble too much on the first night, cause if you lose, then it can start the trip off on the wrong foot.   So I took it easy and only played a little craps and Pia Gow poker.  Managed to walk away from the tables that night at 2:00am (Vegas time, 5:00am My time) ahead by a couple hundred bucks.   Not bad.
